What a Dining Table Set Includes in Nigeria

A Nigerian dining set is quoted as a package: the table plus a set number of chairs, priced as one item. A four-seater comes with four chairs, a six-seater with six, and so on. This differs from the European and North American habit of pricing tables and chairs separately, and it is the main reason a Nigerian dining-set figure looks high next to an overseas table listing — you are comparing a complete room against a single piece of furniture.

Above the eight-seater mark, sets are often quoted with two carver chairs (armchairs for the head and foot) and four to six side chairs. Some formal suites add a matching sideboard or console. Always confirm the chair count and whether a sideboard is included before comparing two quotes, because that single difference can account for a third of the price gap.

Choosing the Seater Configuration

Seater count is the first decision, and the one most often got wrong. Buy for the meal you actually eat, not the party you host twice a year — an oversized table eats the walkway every day of the year.

Four-seater

The right choice for apartments, young couples and dining areas carved out of an open-plan sitting room. Round four-seaters suit tight corners because there is no corner to walk around. Expect a 90–110 cm round top or a 120 × 75 cm rectangle.

Six-seater

The default for a Nigerian family home and the most-requested configuration in our showrooms. A 150–180 cm rectangular top seats six comfortably and takes a seventh at a squeeze. This is the size most dining rooms are designed around.

Eight-seater

For households that host regularly or eat together in larger numbers. Usually 200–240 cm long, often with two carver chairs. Needs a dedicated dining room rather than a dining corner — you need 100 cm of clearance behind each chair.

Ten and twelve-seater

Formal suites for large homes and entertaining. At this scale the table becomes the room's architecture: 280–360 cm long, usually marble or solid hardwood, and frequently specified with a matching sideboard. Measure the doorway and stairwell before ordering — delivery access is the constraint that catches people out.

Wood

Solid and veneered wood remains the most-bought dining top in Nigeria, and the most forgiving in daily family use. It handles heat and impact better than glass, hides small marks, and can be refinished years later. Walnut and dark oak tones dominate formal rooms; lighter oak suits modern open-plan spaces.

Marble and Stone

Marble is the statement choice and the one that photographs best, with veining unique to each slab. It is heavier, needs sealing, and reacts to acidic spills — citrus, vinegar and wine — so it rewards households that wipe as they go. Glass

Tempered glass keeps a small dining room feeling open because the eye travels through it to the floor. It suits four and six-seaters in apartments. It shows fingerprints and needs daily wiping, which is worth knowing before choosing it for a household with young children.

On shape: rectangular tables fit the majority of Nigerian dining rooms and scale best above six seats. Round tables suit four to six and make conversation easier because everyone faces everyone. Oval gives the seating capacity of a rectangle with softer circulation, useful when the walkway is tight on one side.

Sizing the Set to Your Dining Room

Three measurements decide whether a set works in the room. Take them before you shop, not after.

• Clearance — 100 cm on every side. Measure from the table edge to the nearest wall or furniture. Below 90 cm, a seated guest cannot be passed behind. This single rule eliminates most of the sets people regret.
• Table length — 60 cm of edge per seat. Six seats need roughly 180 cm of usable perimeter on a rectangle. Carver chairs need 70 cm each because of the arms.
• Delivery path — measure the narrowest point. Doorways, stair turns and lift depth, not the dining room itself, are what limit large tables. Marble tops do not flex; a 280 cm slab needs a straight run.

Dining Set Trends in Nigeria for 2026

Three shifts are visible across our 2026 order book. Round and oval tops are gaining on rectangles in apartment-sized homes, because they solve the walkway problem without losing seats. Mixed materials — a stone or sintered top on a wood or brushed-metal base — have moved from luxury-only to the mid-premium band. And upholstered chairs in textured neutrals have largely replaced the high-gloss leatherette look that dominated the previous few years.

What has not changed is the six-seater's dominance. Trend coverage tends to over-index on statement pieces, but the table most Nigerian homes actually buy is a six-seater rectangle in wood, and that has held steady.
